18 Dec Be A Team Builder
Did you know that every great leader must be an excellent team builder?
In Exodus 18 we read the story of one of the greatest leaders in the Bible, Moses. In this interaction, we see Moses‘ father-in-law Jethro share some great wisdom. See Moses had a measure of success, but up until this point, he tried to do the whole job alone. Upon seeing that Moses was a great leader but not a great team builder, Jethro offered this advice:
“Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.“ —Exodus 18:17-18
The reality is that the work God has called us to as leaders is too heavy for you and you alone. If we go at it alone, we will only wear ourselves out. That is why we must be not only great leaders but great team builders as well.
As leaders, we need to care about our teams, pray for our teams, reach out to our teams during the week, and let them know we are there for them. We can come along next to them and pray for specific things in their life, let them know we appreciate them, and pull the best out of them. Sometimes people just need to know that someone believes in them, that they are appreciated and loved. And sometimes just knowing and feeling that from their leader is all the motivation they need to excel in what they do and serve with joy, excellence, and passion.
